Green Eyes Blue (day 16)

Shirt: J.Crew Factory

Jeans: Target

Boots: Restricted via Piperlime (buy)

Scarf: Old Navy

Necklace: Loft

In middle school when colored contacts came out I wanted blue ones so badly. Today thanks to a little photoshop accident I finally have them. Ok so the song really goes “Don’t it make my brown eyes blue,” but I spent all morning convinced it was “green eyes”. This song, like the one I mentioned yesterday, is older than me, so I really don’t feel so bad for getting the lyrics wrong. Do you remember when you were little and every toy you had had to be the same gender as you? Toy trucks can be girls. How you wanted all of your dolls to look like you?  Please tell me I’m not the only one who still has her “My American Girl” doll that looks like her on a shelf at her parents house. Ok, that shelf might be in the closet but she’s still there.  Maybe I just haven’t out grown wanting things to be like me :-)  This song I know is about green eyes, like mine. Today I have regressed to being five. Maybe I’ll make macaroni and cheese for dinner.

Day two of my little remix repeat challenge is done.

Last Tuesday’s outfit with J.Crew Shirt and Restricted Boots:

Manic Monday (day 15)

Blazer: J.Crew

Shirt: Forever 21

Jeans: American Eagle

Boots: Candies

Scarf: street vendor

Earrings: Francesca’s Collections

All day today our director kept referring to today as manic Monday. She also had the song playing on her computer. Did you know it was originally recorded by the Bangles? I guess my 1980’s music knowledge is weak.

Today really was one of those days where you some how end up at three o’clock and you don’t know how you got there but gosh a nap would be nice. After one of the best and also least productive weekends I’ve had in awhile I guess the work week just came as a bit of shock. I didn’t even realize that I wore this outfit, sans blazer and sub shoes, last Monday. Don’t judge me too much. Can I pretend it is an extra little remix challenge? What if I do it all week, wear the same key items each day as last week?  We are about at that point in the remix where I start to panic that I chose the wrong items. A little extra challenge and direction are probably what I need to get through the week. As we are taught in design school, “Own it!” if a mistake turns out to be brilliant, pretend you planned it that way. And while you all now know that today wasn’t planned, I’m just tired enough to be think this is a good idea.

Last Monday’s remix of the Forever 21 top and American Eagle jeans:

(good lighting and a little love make all the difference)

"… these late hours I’ve been keepin’" (day 14)

Jacket: Lands’ End Canvas

Sweater: J.Crew

Jeans: Target

Shoes: Steve Madden

Necklace: Loft

Sometimes waking up late can be enough to ruin the whole day. Running around, anxious of being late for work, forgetting your lunch and your cell phone on the kitchen counter, having to forgo a cup of coffee, these things trickle through the rest of the day.  Anxiety creeps into the spaces between meetings when you realize you are expecting a phone call, on that cell phone sitting on the kitchen counter. Fiscal guilt accompanies the thought of having to buy both lunch and coffee and spacey hunger means you pop between windows on the computer screen without getting anything done.

Yesterday morning I realized that most of this trouble is a self-inflicted. Makeup, blow drying and checking email suck up all of my time most mornings. I skipped trying to work the birds nest that I woke up with out of my hair and just teased the rest of my hair into a bun. Coffee won priority over makeup. I threw on the most simple comfortable outfit I could think of. Well, it was the most comfortable outfit that was acceptable to leave the house in. I managed to avoid opening my lap top, leaving me time to grab something to eat. You know what, I made it out the door, lunch and cell phone in hand, earlier than I did any other day this week. This may not be the most fashionable outfit of my 30 but it made for a good day.

For the record, sometimes staying up late is totally worth the compromises that have to be made the next morning. I remember in college when four hours of sleep was normal. When school work or hanging out always trumped shut eye. It is nice to have something that is more appealing, more pressing than sleep. Although you all are going to end up seeing a lot of headless pictures if I continue this rushed morning, no make up routine. Close ups sans a little mascara isn’t something anyone wants to see.

Red, black and white all over (day 13)

Blazer: French Connection via Marshalls

Turtleneck: Old Navy

Jeans: American Eagle

Shoes: American Eagle

Flower: Forever 21

Earrings (that you can’t see, but look sorta like this): gift from step-mom :-)

It is finally light enough outside for me to take pictures before leaving for work. Come on Spring, keep on coming!

The white out behind me isn’t poor photo quality. That is fog. Fog that is thick enough you can almost hear your car slice through it. Fog that makes curves in the road and hills look the same. Fog that makes horror movie plots draft themselves in my head.  The car ahead of you is invisible then emerges from the whiteness as you get close, as if it were made of the fog itself.  It hangs over the ground, and people walking across the parking lot are only visible from the knees down. It never lifts, weighting down the air from sunrise to sunset. Seriously guys this stuff is beautiful, but it creeps me out and it not something I’m exciting to drive in.  If schools get a two hour delay, can’t I get one too?

My white rental car, isn’t helping since I feel like I just blend in with the fog. But at least I won’t get hit in the parking lot wearing this blazer, no over-coat necessary. The cause of this fog is the little heat wave we are having. Hello, balmy 43 degrees. Goodbye, winter coat, I know I’ll see you again soon, if some creature doesn’t creep out of the fog and eat me.

Big Changes (day 12)

Shirt: J.Crew Factory

Skirt: J.Crew Factory

Leggings: Forever 21

Boots: Restricted via Piperlime (buy)

Necklace: (sitting on the bathroom counter because I forget to put it on. SMRT!)

So I wore this shirt two days ago. I did laundry I swear. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way I have a question:

Does anyone else feel that J.Crew has changed their sizes? That everything seems to have gotten bigger?  Such as this skirt that I am convinced is too big, but since I already wore it I’ll have to deal with taking in. I’ve a few tank tops that I keep meaning to take in as well. I’m not lacking in the chest and yet these shirt are huge on me. I’ve always been a medium. But these tanks, both part of the remix, are big on me, like I am planning on taking them in a few inches.

Thoughts?! Sound off fellow J.Crew shoppers.

Gonna Wrap Myself in Ribbons (day 11)

Shirt: Forever 21

Jeans: American Eagle

Shoes: Target (nude heels, that you can’t see)

Necklace: Tiffany

Earrings: Lauren by Ralph Lauren

I love Valentine’s Day. I choose to. If the option is be disappointed that I’m single and bemoan the fact no one bought me flowers OR use it as a an excuse to spend the weekend making truffles, painting valentines, to tell my friends that I love them and dress up a little bit then I choose option B. Please and Thank you.

I choose to make Valentine’s Day special. I refuse to mope.  My love of Valentine’s Day started in high school when a guy sent his girlfriend a barber shop quartet to sing to her at school.  I happen to walk through the lobby when they were singing. She seemed less than impressed but it made my day. When she walked off  the four adorable old men offered to come sing to my class because I was the only one watching and they still had 30 minutes left to sing. So they followed me back to my art class and they sang old school love songs to us. They were just so happy to be singing for people. That’s when I realized Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about what we get, it can just be about spreading love in general. Enjoying the love in the air. There are so few days when you can look around and see other people showing their affection for each other.

I’ll happily take this holiday as an excuse to dress up a little bit and to spread a little love, in the form of chocolate and homemade cards. When Valentine’s day is about what we get to do for others and about dressing up, it is hardly depressing.

Valentine’s Day is a day to wear red lipstick and to paint my nails. Its a reason to wear a fancy shirt to work and pull out the one piece of Tiffany jewelry that I own. Because if there is ever day to wear a sterling silver heart, it is today.

When else is it ok to eat chocolate before breakfast? (Oh, that’s still not ok? Shhh! Let me pretend.) If I had my way I’d eat nothing but chocolate all day today, but I’d probably regret that tomorrow. I’ve about two dozen handmade truffles to share at work, and nothing beats how proud I am of those little guys, or how happy I am when I get to sneak a few on to a friend’s desk.

Even though I may or may not  have that special someone to send myself to, I choose to “wrap myself in ribbons,” with a bow on my back, rouge on my lips and my new pave earrings in my ears I greet today, excited.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Lovelies!!

PS. at least call you mom and tell her you love her!

The Weekender (day 10)

Shirt: J.Crew Factory

Jeans: G by Guess

Boots: Blowfish

Scarf: Target

Earrings: made by ME :-)

On weekends I usually end up wearing only one outfit. I put it on when I go out but take it off as soon as I step foot back in the apartment, so I consider it fair game to wear two days in a row. Men’s XL sweatpants do not make for cute outfit pictures but they are perfect in an apartment with a less than truthful thermostat. Yeah you, buddy I’m calling your bluff. Since when does 67 degree require one to wear double layers head to toe?

This weekend was spent making truffles and panting. Both activities are better done while drinking wine. This has been proven, by me.  Although with the amount of liquor I put in the truffles, one could just eat a few of them and consider oneself tipsy. (dear co-workers, you’re welcome!)

I hope you all had a relaxing and productive weekend!!

Steppin’ Out (day 9)

This is how we go out in Wisconsin…

Favorite pair of jeans and a warm sweater. No slinky little tops here, do you know how cold silk can feel?!

A warm hat is a requirement when below zero temperatures are likely, so you might as well make it a cute one. A scarf is omnipresent.

Throw on your favorite coat, note the flannel lining.

Shoes must be warm and water proof. They will probably be covered in snow anyway. Frost bite is never cute, so it better to wear the boots and sacrifice a little vanity.

Now who wants to come visit and go dancing?! We have really good beer up here.

Sweater: J.Crew

Jeans: American Eagle

Necklace: Claire’s circa 2005

Scarf: street vendor

Coat: American Eagle

Left Footed (day 8)

Sweater: J.Crew

Jacket: Triple Five Soul

Jeans: Target

Socks: American Eagle

Boots: Restricted via Piperlime (buy)

Broach: via Etsy

I’ve had the worst clothes craving for big chunky men’s sock. Heather gray, please. Functionally I want them because the heat vent in my car only blows on my right foot and my poor left foot is numb by them time I get to work. The least I can do for the toes on my left foot is dress them a little better for the weather.  Being honest though I want men’s socks so I can wear them with cute ankle boots, like these gray ones. The socks I’m wearing today are not men’s socks. Men’s socks don’t have lurex woven into them. Burly men who wear hearty socks don’t wear much glitter. These socks are actually knee socks that I tucked and scrunched so they looked right. But my poor frozen left foot is still demanding thicker socks or a car with better heat vents. We had a little talk about how much a new car would cost and I promised new socks soon. We’ve a little trip to Orvis planned for the weekend. I’m counting socks as a necessity rather than an accessory, please don’t hold it against my Remixers.

Laugh until the day is done (day 7)

Jacket: Lands’ End Canvas

Sweater: J.Crew

Jeans: G by Guess

Boots: Sperry Topsider

Necklace: Loft

Scarf: street vendor

Sometimes thoughts about things too personal or too work oriented crowd out all of the funny stories and little tid bits I’d like to give to all of you. Today is one of those days. At lease I got up and got dressed. I even put on make up and a necklace, a big one at that! Not to mention taking pictures, yup freshly shot and edited in just for you. So today I’m counting on a picture really being worth a 1000 words, because 3000 words is a down right long blog post and then I won’t feel like such a slacker.

A happy little thought: It’s Wednesday, only two more days until the weekend. To accompany that thought I will leave you with this…

if you act goofy it makes the day go faster, I really believe that.
